Paths and Bridges

There’s an undeniable beauty and wonder in the fortunes that can be found in unexpected connections, in the moments when kindred spirits unite with joy around a shared interest. In these chance encounters lies the potential for profound moments of understanding, empathy, and shared experiences. Sometimes it happens as a flash, as an in-the-moment happy occurrence. Sometimes it’s an emergence, a revelation over time. In both, we can touch that which sustains us.  Polly, whose life was one of depth instead of distance, adored the spontaneity of the interactions that reveal the richness of human connection, transcending barriers of culture, background, or belief.

By embracing the unknown and questioning conventional wisdom, Polly sought to create space for genuine connections to flourish. My lived experience, especially since her death, has been much the same. Through these interpersonal interactions, we not only broaden our perspectives but also enrich our lives with new insights, and foster opportunities for virtue, awe and wonder to thrive. Whether we are crossing paths or crossing bridges, by being present to the moment we are invited into the inherent meaning and fulfillment in the shared journey of existence. And the fortunes of life being as mysterious as they are, the bridge or path most important for us to cross likely lies within, and only shows itself when it damn well pleases.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new lands but in seeing with new eyes”

- Marcel Proust

You Want a Physicist to Speak at Your Funeral

Aaron Freeman's reflection on the conservation of energy offers a unique comfort in times of loss. He reminds us that the energy of our loved ones doesn't vanish but transforms, remaining present in the universe. This perspective provides solace by suggesting that, even after death, the essence of those we've lost continues to influence the world around us.
